Maligano Jasper - Grounding Energy, Stabilization, Shedding Negativity, Rebirth

To think about the ancient processes required in forming these brightly-hued stones simply amazes me.

A newly discovered form of brecciated (bre(t)SH(ē)āt-ed - broken into angular fragments) jasper, this Indonesian gem is still up-and-coming in the gemological world. These seemingly burst-apart chunks of brightly-hued jasper (a chalcedony) are glommed back together with a variety of grey and clear agate (also chalcedony). This particular specimen looks to have possibly had druzy pockets (think geode) before it was formed and polished.

Maligano Jasper is named for the town near where it was discovered in Sulawesi and forms in ancient volcanic hot spring areas. Makes sense, right? Look at those colors!

Maybe it's just me, but this particular setting makes me think of pop rocks in a soda bottle, haha!

As with most jaspers, Maligano is a microcrystalline and silicon dioxide mineral variety of quartz. What makes it different from strict chalcedony is the formation of the microcrystals, which are sugar-like rather than fibrous (the latter being chalcedony).

Jasper is an earth element with a variety of grounding energies. Maligano is said to stabilize the aura, assist in shedding negative mentalities, and help in reassessing unhealthy associations. It is a stone of rebirth, in a sense. How apropos for its patterning, no?
